The Open Source Journal is part of the OneSci Scholarly Journals Network. The OneSci Network is engaged in promoting open-access to research funded by public taxes via the NIH. It is developing a method that allows researchers to publish thier experimental findings at no cost, and provide this research as open-access while never charging a subscription fee. So basically, everything is free! How is this possible? With the help of some very bright computer scientists who've volunteered their time, an electronic journal database has been implemeted into a WikiMedia backend. Because it has already been put into place, it requires merely an insignificant yearly cost to maintain. The peer review process will work as it has in the past. In exchange for the right to publish within a specific paradigm of OneSci, researchers are expected to review several articles submitted by other scientists. The online gateway combines the security of a printed journal with the look and familiarity of a wiki; thus, the OneSci Network promotes active discussion and collaboration amongresearchers, professors, and scientists across all fields. Science is one field of inquery which has been split up into many journals. However, like never before, scientists are starting to understand the countless possiblilities that emerge when they collaborate outside their own research paradigm. The OneSci Network is merely a platform that makes building these bridges possible. Whether we choose to continue with our traditional model for publishing research is our own decision. However, this means the continuation of signing away the copyrights to our own research, the continuation of paying stiff prices for journal subscriptions, the continuation of not being able to access articles as the number of journals continues to increase. It is YOUR choice as a principle investigator.
